When I got married I registered for and received a set of simple white porcelain dinnerware.  I had this romantic notion that the plain white would let the food on the plate take center stage.  And the plain white would go with any kitchen color scheme I used in the future (back then we thought we were into deep red).

Okay, let’s get real…I do not cook anything worthy of commanding center stage on a dinner plate and I certainly don’t plate my food for optimal presentation like at a restaurant.  Any romantic notions of fancy dinners went right out the window with the practicality of the porcelain plates when the babies came along.  Pretty soon our dinner table was a mish mash of porcelian plates, plastic kiddie bowls, and sippy cups.

After 7 years of marriage, several chipped or broken pieces, and learning that porcelain is not microwave safe (oops…made for more cracked bowls), we decided it was time for a change.  The requirements for our new everyday dinnerware were:

  1. Inexpensive
  2. Easily replaced
  3. Kid-friendly (which includes dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe)
  4. COLORFUL
I was finally over the white.  My days of being nervous to pick a color or pattern are gone.  I know what I like now.  So our kitchen cupboards went from boring white to vintage teal…love!!!
Vintage Teal Stoneware Dinnerware
We swapped the white for the Room Essentials Glazed Stoneware Dinnerware in Vintage Teal from Target.  We purchased two sets for $24.99 each to get the eight place settings we wanted.  Inexpensive…check!  But they also sell smaller sets of just plates, just bowls, or individual mugs.  Easily replaceable…check!  The stoneware is both dishwasher and microwave safe.  Kid-friendly…check!  And, did I mention they are one of my all-time favorite colors…teal!  COLORFUL…check!  I love the extra shot of color when I open the cupboard in the morning to grab a bowl or mug.
