Party Garland {Tutorial}

I created this paper party garland from scrapbook paper leftovers after making the Milk & Cookies party invitations.  All you need to make this cute party garland is scrap paper, a craft punch, and a sewing machine.  I chose to use a circle craft punch, but any shape would work.  I recommend the punched shapes be a minimum of 1″ diameter, otherwise they will be impossible to sew.

Supplies:

• Scrapbook Paper (leftover bits and scraps work great)
• Craft Punch (1″ circle or other shape min. 1″ size)
• Sewing machine and thread

Step by step:

1.  Punch circles (or other shape) from leftover scrapbook paper.  You can use all different papers or a set of papers like I did.  I sorted my punched paper by pattern.

2.  Stack your punches.  You can do this randomly or in order like I did.  I simply lined up my stacks and then went down the line grabbing one off the top of each to put in the big stack.  This gave me an alternating pattern of the different papers.

3.  Start sewing.  Simply put the first circle under the needle and start stitching.  Butt the next punch right up against the first and feed through.  This will connect your punches into a string.  Go slow at first until you get comfortable.  Your paper garland will continue to grow as you sew.  

Tip:  Grabbing the punches off the stack while sewing was tricky and I kept stopping and starting.  I learned after the first dozen punches it was easier to lay out my punches in order on the table (see bottom right of above picture) so I could quickly grab the next one and feed it through.
