It is about time I finish the dining room and there is a whole list of things to do.  When I started Teal & Lime, one of my first posts was the dining room mood board and some work on the room was already underway.  Now, here we are over 4 months later and it is still not done.  I simply did not have focus.  I have been designing mood boards and doing little projects here and there all around the house.  But I have decided it is time to reign it in.  It is time to really focus on one room at a time.  I have come to the realization that I much prefer one finished room over a bunch of half finished rooms.

Dining Room Before

I am starting with the dining room.  It will be the first finished room in this house.  Of course, finished is relative…over the seasons and years to come it will be tweaked and it will evolve.  I have the most clear vision of what I want in the dining room.  Unlike many of the other rooms in our home, which accommodate multi-tasking, the dining room has a singular purpose.  It is only for dining and entertaining.  The dining room also has not been taken over by my kids.  It does not store any toys or art supplies.  We are fortunate to have an eat-in kitchen for daily meals.  Our dining room can be just a dining room.  However, I want it to speak volumes about us.  As a place for entertaining, I want guests to get a sense of us when they are in the space.

Dining Room Mood Board

To accomplish my design goals in the dining room I have a a running list of projects.  Well, it is not running anymore.  I have capped the list, so I know when done is done.  Now I can focus on tackling the remaining projects on the list one by one.  Without further ado, below is the entire project list for the dining room.  I have linked to projects that are already completed and in the coming weeks you will see the rest as I complete them.

  1. Paint and install board and batten wall treatmentboard and batten primed
  2. Find a larger, durable rug – I found a gorgeous indoor/outdoor rugOutdoor Rug in the Dining Room
  3. Buy dining chairs – I also made my own slipcovers for the head chairs and dyed the side chairs to matchTablecloth Slipcover Dwell Studio
  4. Hang drapes to give a more formal feel
  5. Swap out the chandelier – we aim to rid this house of all amber glass shades
  6. Style the top of the armoire to personalize the space
  7. Style the table with a unique centerpiece that looks great everyday and at a dinner party
  8. Make some art for above the board and batten
Wow…the list does not look that long, but as you get to know me better you will learn that lots of little projects will go into something like “style the top of the armoire to personalize the space”.  Steps 1-4 are already done.  Steps 5-8 are a work in progress.  I will be sharing all the little finishing projects in the next few weeks.

      Barbara,

I am so glad it looks easy…haha! Other than the time it is taking it actually has been quite easy. It is so great to have a clear idea of what you want and to be able to find everything to pull it together. Thanks for reading and commenting!
