Brown Paper Curl Ornaments

There is something I just love about the classic, simple, functional look of brown kraft paper.  I have even purchased those plain brown papier-mâché ornaments and hung them directly on the tree without any decorating.  I think I just love the relief of the matte brown paper mixed in with the lights and the other shiny ornaments.

With leftover brown paper bag tops, from the Punch Game Advent Calendar, I decided to make some more ornaments with my son.  These were super easy to make.  I found the clear ornaments at Michaels for less than $1 each.  I opted for plastic instead of glass, so my son could help me stuff them with no risk of breakage.

Supplies:

• Brown Paper Lunch Bags
• Clear Glass or Plastic Ornaments
• Paper Cutter
• Scissors
• Ribbon

Step by Step:

1. Cut brown paper into 1/4″ strips. Cut the bottom off the lunch bags first.

2. Curl the paper strips with scissors like you would curl curling ribbon.

3. Remove the top from the ornament.

4. Stuff the curls in one at a time. My son helped with this part (great task to keep little hands busy). It took the top of one lunch bag for each of the ornaments.

5. Attach a colorful ribbon. My tree is mostly colorless in decorations this year, but I cannot resist a pop of color with brown kraft paper.

6. Hang on the tree and enjoy!
