Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day!  It has been a very busy weekend for us and today is also my husband’s birthday.  We will be going to buy a grill later to celebrate.  My oldest son and I snuck out early this morning to get Daddy coffee and donuts.  When we returned, we were greeted with the red, white, and blue lining the street.

The boy scout troop in our neighborhood offers a flag service.  For a donation of $50 a year, they plant a flag on the boulevard on 7 patriotic holidays per year.  We have been super impressed with the service.  The older boy scouts drive around and plant the flags early in the morning.  They come back at sundown to take them away.  This is our second year with the flag service.

The first year we saw others with the flags and wanted one of our own.  We were new to the neighborhood and did not know it was a service.  We looked high and low at all the local stores for flags on a stake.  We came up empty handed.  Then, one evening a neighbor let us in on the secret.  His troop was responsible for the flag service and we were more than excited to make the donation.  It is actually pretty genius…I am sure they get plenty of customers that our patriotic, but I bet some of their business comes from neighbors trying to “keep up with the Joneses”.  Either way, the flags look beautiful lining our street!
