We have been on a journey this week, exploring the makeover plan I created for Shannon’s front porch. It started with an Organic Oasis mood board. Then, we looked at some swap options. Yesterday, we looked at some DIY ideas to truly make the porch unique. Today on the last stop on our journey, we are going to look at space planning for the porch.
Based on measurements Shannon shared, I put together a space plan for her porch. Long narrow porches are super tricky to layout and get a cozy feeling. I wanted to give Shannon a couple options to change up the space. The space plan has two new furniture arrangement options to make the seating area more cozy. It also included a 3D view of the seating area and ideas for the empty area by the door.
L-Shaped Seating Area
With your petite love seat you can narrowly get away with an L-shaped conversation area. Put the love seat at the end of the porch and put the chairs together in front of the windows. Because they are so inexpensive, I went a little crazy with the Ikea PS tables, using 3 in between and flanking the chairs. The long rug runner works great in this layout.
Fountain Space Filler
When you first described the empty area to the left of your door, my mind went straight to this great DIY fountain planter. Not only will it fill up the space, but it also gives you the opportunity to bring some greenery up on the porch.
Cozy Seating Area
This arrangement provides you the coziest seating arrangement possible in this narrow space. The chair at the end of the porch and the love seat against the house forms an L-shape. The other chair is slightly angled on the other side of the love seat. The larger rectangle rug works will with this layout.
The console table to the left of the door creates an outdoor foyer. You can purchase an outdoor console, like suggested on the swap options board, or you can use a thrifted dresser, like the one on the DIY ideas board. Seasonally you can change the decor above (think mirror, tin star, wreath).
eDecor Services Now Available
Shannon’s eDecor plan was just the start. Thanks to her patience and feedback I was able to prototype my services and make them available. My mood boards are like a visual shopping list for your perfect room. In addition to the mood board, I include a free DIY ideas board for the room. Get yours here.
This whole week I have been sharing all the details of Shannon’s porch makeover plan. The complete plan is a 5-page wealth of sources and ideas. It is all an example of the detail you can expect with my eDecor services.
