Amazing Deal on Martha Stewart Craft Space Furniture

I apologize upfront for the hasty pictures, but I had to let you guys know about the most amazing furniture deal I scored over the weekend.  Some of you may be able to take advantage of this deal, too.  Please excuse the bare cement floors and debris.  My studio is obviously still a work in progress, but this deal gave it a good jumpstart.

I have longed for these Martha Stewart drawer units since I first saw them in the Home Decorator’s catalog.  I included one in my Blank Slate Studio mood board.  I have dreamed of two of these with a counter on top going wall to wall.

I was very excited when they started carrying them, for a limited time, in Home Depot stores.  They are $296 online from Home Decorators, but the white 3-drawer flat file cabinets were marked $199 in Home Depot stores.  Saving $200 on two would have been great, but I waited too long.  My local store sold out.  I was momentarily distraught until I looked closer at the shelf tag and noticed they clearanced them for $150.

I took an iPhone picture of the shelf tag and went to the service desk.  I asked them to see if any of the other local stores had any in stock.  Did you know they could do this?  They put in the product number and it spits out the stock numbers of other local stores.  So helpful!  It said a nearby store had 4!  We drove straight there.

At the store there was one in a box already on a flatbed cart and one on display.  We asked for another one in the box (remember the stock list said they had 4).  Three employees later we were told the numbers were off and they only had the display, which they were willing to sell.  The nice employee who was helping us last negotiated an additional 20% off the display, because the top was dinged up pretty bad.  Of course, I have plans for adding a counter across the top of both, so it did not bother me.  Still, not going to turn down 20% more off!  The total for both cabinets with tax was $289!!

Then the fun started.  Even in the box, these cabinets are huge!  It was daunting just to see the weight, 150 lbs, printed on the side of the box.  The display one was even larger, because the legs and lower shelf were attached.  Our car, yes I said car, is not that big!  Even after folding down the seats in my Audi Allroad (wagon) we could not fit the assembled cabinet.  We ended up loading in the boxed one and took it home.  Once home we opened that box to get the tools and instructions.  We headed back to the store (20 minutes each way) to get the display model.  We took the legs and lower shelf off in the store, so it would fit in the car.  Although it was super frustrating to take two trips and lift heavy 150 lb cabinets, it was worth the $300+ saved and no shipping!

I was so happy to finally see both cabinets sitting in my studio.  I still need to reassemble the display model…but these things only happen one nap at a time for me.  The cabinets will be in the corners on the back wall of my studio.  Once both are in place, and a bunch of other stuff is finished in the room, I will be topping them with a DIY wood countertop extending wall to wall.  The 24″ gap between the cabinets in the middle will be a perfect spot to tuck a stool.  The resulting work surface will be 108″ long and 28″ deep.  Sometimes I like to or need to stand when working on projects.  These cabinets are counter height, which will make a great standing work surface.

In addition to the 3-drawer flat file cabinet, some Home Depot stores also carried the craft table desk and wrapping paper hutch.  They were only stocked for a limited time and are all now on clearance.  If I remember correctly the desk was only $99.  Be sure to check your local Home Depot or ask them to check stock at other local stores.  These pieces are not on sale or clearance online, only in stores.  The full Martha Stewart Craft Space collection is online here.
