I know, confusing title. But I found the perfect rug for my kitchen, which happens to be a bath rug. Don’t worry, it is not fluffy and rubber-backed. In fact, I think it hardly looks like a bath rug at all. You know me…I like to think outside the box when it comes to filling my home decorating needs.
My new rug is from the Nate Berkus collection at Target. It is the Aztec Diamond Bath Rug in Ultramine (a fancy way of saying teal). I think the texture is opposite of what I would prefer in a bathroom. I instantly thought it would make a nice rug in front of the kitchen sink.
The texture is not like normal fluffy or loopy bath rugs. It is a rougher, woven texture. Other than me telling you, I don’t think anyone will ever know I put a bath rug in my kitchen.
When we first moved into the house, I had a couple random rugs in the kitchen. After a few weeks I removed them altogether, thinking I preferred the bare wood floor. Although I do prefer the bare wood floor for aesthetic reasons (it is a pretty floor), my poor back did not appreciate the lack of cushion when standing in the kitchen. Long-term I want a wide long runner for the kitchen, but for now I am happy with my under $20 fix.
My solution for making the rug non-slip and even more cushy is a rug pad. I had this one on hand, but they sell the same ones at Target.
The little pillow-y squares on the pad add some cushion and slip-resistance under the rug.
I love the little splash of pattern on the wood floor. It helps break up the wood on wood look.
