This cozy modern lodge living room seemed like a fitting design to share this week. As we drudge through snow here in Minnesota, I wish I could just crawl into this mood board and take a long winter nap. My client recently moved into the home in a year-round mountain community. She wanted to create a modern lodge feel, which works perfectly with her preference for neutrals.
This is room is the only living space in my client’s home, so it needs to be a space the whole family can enjoy. The white walls were a big design constraint. With high, vaulted ceilings, my client was not ready to repaint the walls. My big challenge was to make the space look cozy and welcoming with the white walls as a backdrop.
My client’s love of neutrals with a hint of glamour and her fondness of mercury glass, led me to create a sophisticated, yet relaxed, modern lodge look. The key to making white walls and neutral colors work is layering patterns and textures. A touch of navy, although a neutral color itself, becomes the accent color in this space.
One of my favorites in this design, is the armoire to conceal the TV. We all must be complacent to the eyesore of a TV now, because good TV armoires are getting hard to come by. This one is a bit rustic and matches the exposed log columns in my client’s home.
My client also wanted to work in a chair she inherited from her grandfather, but it was in serious need of re-upholstery. To help it tie into the room and be a focal, I wanted her to redo the chair in navy. Many furniture stores sell their fabrics by the yard, so I recommended using the same navy fabric as the bench ottoman.
Note: Out of respect to my clients, I share completed mood board designs, but I do not share the source information. I hope you find the mood boards inspiring.
