As much as I love window shopping, I thought it would be nice to share what I actually spend money on for my home.  The What I Bought series is a way for me to share what I buy on my home shopping trips.

They recently opened new World Market stores across the Twin Cities.  We had them years ago, but they closed.  I am so happy to see them come back.  At first when I found out they were, I was embarrassed.  The week before I made my hubby drive out-of-the-way in Dallas to stop by one…oops!  Now I have one less than 30 minutes away.  I hope they do well and they re-open the one right in my city.

World Market has a mish-mash of styles leaning mostly toward global, eclectic, traditional, and a bit of industrial.  I appreciate all of those styles for other people’s homes, but most of their product line is not really my cup of tea.  But, each season I find a few pieces that work well with any style, and that I just can’t live without.

Here is what I grabbed on my last two trips to World Market:

World Market Shopping Trip

1.  Glass Drying Rack – A smaller version of the really awesome and expensive vintage French drying racks for $14.99!  If I was still nursing my babies, this would be my stylish choice for bottle drying.  I have pinned a couple other cute ideas for using a drying rack to hold cups at a party or small stockings during the holidays.

2. Slate Blue Velvet Curtain Panels – I got these on the first trip a whole back.  They have already been cut up and given a new life.  You saw a sneak peek of them here.  I owe you a post all about recovering those slipper chairs with curtain panels.

3. Lidded Glass Jars – I kind of go nuts for corked glass jars and any combination of wood and glass.  I grabbed three of these guys for a project I am working on in the kitchen.

4. Berry Basket – So cute!  I just got one, but wanted to buy 20.  Looks like they only sell this as a set of 3 online, but you can buy each color individually in store.  This one will go in my studio probably on the white stair tread shelves.  I have a few other berry baskets that I use in the bathroom.

5.  Heart Shaped Ramekin – Need a ramekin?  World Market’s got you covered with several options.  The sight of this guy melted my heart.  He’s already got a home as a catch-all on the wire shelves in the laundry room.

6.  Driftwood Chargers – I bought three of these (they sell them online as a set of 2, but they are available individually in store).  I know three is an odd number for dinner chargers, but I don’t plan to use them as chargers.  My son and I did a little snow day project with these earlier this week, but you’ll have to wait until we are further along in the playroom to see what they became.

7.  Mallard Ceramic Stool – I can’t believe it has taken me this long to get my first ceramic stool.  I featured a silver one, also from World Market, on my basement family room mood board, but it is no longer available.  Then, I saw at the store this one marked as clearance.  I had to have it.  (Looks like it is no longer available online now, but some stores still have them.)  I ended up getting an extra 10% off the clearance price by taking the floor model…I am pretty proud of my $33 ceramic stool score.

Note: I was not compensated in any way for this post.  I am just an World Market fan sharing the great finds I bought with my hard-earned money.

I like this series! It’s fun to hear what you actually brought home. I love those drift wood chargers & I’m super curious to see what project you did with them!

  2. Casey says:

The velvet curtains are really pretty! I love the berry bowls. Did you see the ceramic egg trays, too? They’re very similar to the ones at Anthro, but less expensive. :)

    • Jackie says:

Yes, Casey. I almost got an egg tray, too. But I have an old gray one from Target in my fridge. I have seen them used for holding jewelry, but I dont wear that much jewelry. Hmmmm…I feel a strong need to browse Pinterest for egg crate ideas :)

I take WM for granted. Haven’t been in years as its just five minutes away! But Ikea or PB or C&B we travel over a hundred miles to visit! I too wondered if the velvet curtains look nice if used as drape panels or do they seem cheap?

    • Jackie says:

Their velvet is nice. I actually used them for upholstery on accent chairs. I will say that my velvet drapes in the dining room from West Elm are way heavier and even better quality…but they were also much more expensive (at least double).

By the way, Ikea has a really gorgeous velvet drape now in a brighter aqua color. And I was really impressed with the quality in the store.

@ Gwen: The velvet drapes don’t look cheap, and they last! Ours made it through 2 babies growing into school-age kids in our previous house.
@ Jackie: I too just bought my first ceramic stool, identical to yours (also on clearance)! It looks good in 3 rooms in my house, but landed in our bedroom as a laptop table when it’s charging. For now. LOVE World Market!

    • Jackie says:

Great use for the stool Jennifer. Ours is currently squatting at the end of the sofa in our living room. We don’t have end tables, so it is a nice place to set down a drink. I might have to steal the laptop charging idea…my laptop will be so spoiled with it’s teal pedestal!

I have always loved World Market. When I lived in the twin cities I was disappointed that there wasn’t one nearby. Now there is, and I’ve moved to Fargo. *shakes fist in the air*

  6. I love World Market and wish they had stores up in Canada. This is a fun series and I look forward to seeing more of what you buy.

  7. Liz says:

Oooh! My husband and I are taking a little pre-Easter treat gathering date for the kids’ Easter baskets to World Market and Trader Joe’s next weekend, I might just have to get one of those berry baskets while I am there. They would be perfect for my kitchen!
Thanks for showing us your finds!
What a deal on the garden stool! I was at Home Goods in Woodbury on Wednesday and saw one there for $69 and I thought that was a good deal!

  8. Jen says:

I almost bought one of these tonight for $50. We just happen to be going to WM tomorrow – totally buying one!! So glad I saw this!

I picked up one of those glass holders too even though I didn’t have an exact purpose in mind. It just spoke to me. Here’s a post about it:):

I also picked up 2 of the heart shaped Ramekins right before Valentine’s Day for fun morning cereal bowls for the kiddos. Since I bought the green ones, we used them for St. Patrick’s Day too.

And I picked up the same curtains in a darker hue about a month ago, though I plan to use them as curtains…for now. Love the idea of using the fabric for upholstery down the road! Great minds shop alike, I guess:)!!

Beth, What adorable ideas for the glass drying rack! Too bad winter is almost through…I LOVE the mitten drying idea. Mine will definitely be used for that next year! Thanks for sharing.
