Sharing My Decorating Addiction

Exec Headshot

My name is Jackie and I am addicted to home decorating.  As a child I used to drive my parents nuts by rearranging the furniture in my room all the time.  Since I branched out on my own, I have transformed every place I’ve lived into a home.  I started out decorating my dorm room, then graduated to a room in a college house, and later my own apartment. With my husband, I have decorated two town-homes and I am currently working on our first single-family home.

I started Teal & Lime in June 2011 as a creative outlet to share the projects I was already doing in our home. The dialogue of Teal & Lime had been playing in my head through all those projects, and I finally put into print. It is a journal of making a house our home. When I started Teal & Lime, I was still working in a confining cubicle for a large corporation…it zapped the life right out of me. I broke free at the end of 2012 to spend more time with my family and to grow Teal & Lime. I feel alive again! I get to spend lots of time with my two little boys before and after school. I get to work from my beautiful home in a light-filled, color-filled office. All the while, I continue on the journey of making my house a home and making it ours. I have been blessed to help others do the same in their homes.

Why Teal & Lime?

My love affair with all things teal and turquoise began years ago during my first kitchen remodel. I wanted a fresh and unexpected paint color for the walls. At the time, I was addicted to a long-sleeve turquoise t-shirt that, at least to me, looked fabulous with everything. I always felt great in in it. If I loved it so much in my wardrobe I figured I would love it just as much in my kitchen. Sure enough I was happy to have my kitchen wear that color every day.  Oh, I still miss that kitchen.  But not to worry the color lives on.

Nursery shelvesFast-forward to a few houses later and my go-to colors, teal and turquoise, continue as staples in my home decorating. As my tastes evolved those colors remained favorites. My husband loves them too. After a while though it started to get a little too teal… on teal… on teal… The search began for the prefect accent color. Orange was a bold option, but tricky to get just right and lacked long-lasting appeal for me.  Finally, in my current home I have fallen in love with splashes of lime green.  Just a touch here and there is perfect.  It started in my youngest son’s nursery.  I chose an amazing teal for his walls.  And, happily discovered a fabric I designed previously looked stunning in the room.  The accent color in the fabric was lime green.  I rounded up a few lime green storage bins for toys.  Later when our family photographer chose lime to accent his newborn photo collage I knew it was meant to be.  Teal & Lime.

Jackie I just discovered your blog via IHeartOrganizing.com. Your house tour is amazing–I totally love everything you’ve done. I have developed a love of teal and turquoise in the past couple of years and am so much happier with my living room after replacing the PB’ish tan/red/black scheme. Ha. I am grateful that Target has finally come around to this color scheme as well! I can’t wait to see more of your website and order a design from you. Thanks for sharing your talent!!!

Thanks for your sweet comment. I love finding others who share a passion for designing with less conventional colors. I am so happy some retailers are coming around too…some of my faves for teal and turquoise are Target, Z Gallerie, CB2, and West Elm.

Hi, I’ve been following your blog for a while now and love your style.

How can I tell my interior designer that I want some thing like yours? Is it contemporary? Modern?

    • Jackie says:

Ling, we consider our style modern, and we like to mix in DIY projects and unique pieces (from any style) for an eclectic feel. Hope that helps!
